 Rental Properties in Longswamp Township


The Township adopted Ordinance No. 303, regarding residential rental unit registration September 12, 2023, which now requires all owners of residential rental property to obtain rental permits every year.  However, inspection of rental units is still only required for (a) new rental units, (b) upon sale/transfer of property with rental units, and (c) every three years for permit renewals.  Rental permits are now valid for a period of one calendar year and expire on December 31 each year.  Every landowner maintaining residential rental property must annually submit to the Township a completed Rental Unit Registration Form.
The Board of Supervisors has also established the following fees for the 2024 Calendar Year:
Permit fee (new or renewal) $0.00 if received by January 31, 2024

                                                     $100.00 if received after January 31, 2024.
Inspection fee (if inspection is required, regardless of date received)
$100.00 1st rental unit on single lot
                                        $50.00 each additional rental unit on single lot containing 2 or more rental units.
Please forward completed Rental unit Registration Forms, Inspection Payment Forms, and all applicable fees (payable to Longswamp Township) to: Longswamp Township, 1112 State Street, Mertztown, PA 19539.  The Township code enforcement officer will contact you to schedule the required inspection.
 Please note that if the Township receives your Rental Unit Registration Form and Inspection fee
(if applicable) by January 31, 2024, no Permit Fee applies.  If the Township receives these items after January 31, 2024 the Permit Fee is $100.00.  Any owner of residential rental property that fails to register by February 28, 2024 may be subject to enforcement action by the Township; failure to register residential rental property is a violation of Ordinance No. 303 and a summary offense punishable by fine up to $1,000.00 plus costs.
If your properties have been sold or are no longer rental properties, please contact the Township office so records can be updated.
